"You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with" – E James Rohn
Have a look at your life, your business, your career. Is everything just as you imagined? If it isn’t them something needs to change.
“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result” - Einstein
Determine what you want to change and write down specifically what you would like your life to look like, sound like, feel like.
Next, think about the people you spend your time with. Are they helping you to achieve your goals?
For example:
- Do they support and encourage you when you invest time developing your business/career or do they moan that you are not spending enough time with them?
- Do they support and encourage you to take risks or do they just offer insight into what could go wrong?
- Do you admire their traits and achievements or do you get annoyed by their lack of get up and go?
- Do they inspire and motivate you to achieve your goals or are they lethargic and happy with the status quo?
- Do they congratulate you when you do well or make you feel like you are bragging?
- Do they look at life as half full or half empty?
- Do you feel re-energised or drained when you spend time with them?
If you are not developing yourself and your business/career don’t be fooled into thinking you are standing still. As others continue to invest in themselves you will actually fall behind and keep traveling backwards.
I’m assuming that you are in business or working on your career for a reason. I’m assuming that you are not happy with the status quo and you want more for yourself and your family – is that right?
If you want to achieve more than you are achieving now it is essential to spend time with people who: Inspire, motivate, encourage, support and can guide you.
ACTION: Think about what you want to achieve and what you need to learn and then put yourself into situations with people who will feed you mind and soul.
Remember: You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with!
